Swatch portraits

swatchportraits2 Discovered this project on purlbee while looking for inspiration.  Seems like a good  way to make use of fabric that I don’t know how to use.  This blog also looks pretty awesome too, it has all sorts of sewing/craft ideas!  It might become my new favorite blog.

Poladroid is fabulously fun!

So I was at a BBQ the other day and this girl Alexis told me about Poladroid.  It’s totally fun and lets you turn digital images into polaroids, without the expensive film.  While it’s pretty much just a filter and is more fun than anything else, I’m enjoying it none the less.  Some images do not looks so good going through the filter, just the coloring is not to my taste and I don’t like the way it gets cropped, but there are some other images that it looks good on.  I think for those of you that appreciate polaroids but mourned the end of polaroid and hated the cost this is a simple digital solution.  Enjoy!

YELLOW OWL WORKSHOP STAMPS

I found these stamps from a blog I think it was either Back Garage or shelterrific, but I can’t remember now.  Anyways I like these stamps all the sets would work together or by themselves, so if you need ideas of what to get me as a  gift…..I’d love any of these. :)

Summer food

shrimp with rice noodles This is a delicous summer dish that can be altered to fit whatever you fancy.  Here I used shrimp, rice noodles, lettuce, carrots, cilantro and i think celery.  The sauce was rice vineger, sugar, fish sauce, jalepeno and garlic.  I sort of forgot  what I did now, but it’s a combo of these two recipes. http://www.whats4eats.com/pastas/bun-thit-nuong-recipe and  http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/asian-noodle-salad-with-chicken-and-cilantro?autonomy_kw=rice%20noodles&rsc=header_6

It’s a refreshing dish that is best served room temperature.

Joe's hungry Joe loves this stuff!

using what’s in the kitchen

stir-fry spectacular Using what I had left I made a delicious stir-fry tonight.  I had some sliced beef that I marinaded in soy sauce, chicken bouillon, ginger infused sherry wine, cumin, and cornstarch.  I let that sit for about 30 minutes while I gathered my veggies.  I had a little spinach that was bordering on going bad, a little celery, one zucchini, half an onion, and some cilantro.  First I heated the oil with some ginger slices then added the onions letting them sweat.  next I added the beef and browned it.  I removed the beef,  onions and gingers and then added the zucchini and celery to the hot pan.  After those were cooked through I returned the meat and added the spinach.  Oh yes and I also used a black pepper sauce that I added to the cooked meat and veggies, just a dollop. I also spinkled in some cayenne pepper.   After I turned off the heat I mixed in the cilantro.  I wish I could give measurements but I really just eyeball it, which sometimes makes things too salty or too bland.

Thai Curry Noodles with shrimp

Got this recipe idea from good ‘ole Ming Tsai.  We didn’t have buttermilk or bean thread noodles on hand so we used coconut milk and buckwheat noodles instead, but it turned out delicious, I also added cilantro too.   It’s spicy, and little sour from the lemon and just plan wonderful!

A weekend of yard sales

framesCheck out what Joe and I bought this weekend.  We spent the entire weekend hitting up neighborhood yard sales.  We found a good amount of things, more everyday stuff than wow that’s awesome stuff.  Joe started a collections of frames.The more everyday stuff was travel mugs that I got super cheap, a window fan, a mortar and pesel, jars, juice glass, and paper towel holder.  Boring stuff but all things that will be used.  Then of course we got cds like Elvis Costello, Billy Joel, Patsy Cline, Slim Whitman, and Genesis.

the ally has served us wellBut the most impressive was this table found in our alley.  We plan to use it as a tv stand after joe fixes it up a little.  Joe also scored  a table saw and a heat gun.

I heart crepes

Fliphappy crepes Austin, TX is the place for crepes.  Fliphappy crepes is the greatest it’s outdoor seating and the food is made to order in a tiny air stream trailer.  They only serve lunch, but it’s the greatest place and reasonable prices too.  Plus is was on the food network, so there!
